Outcomes
1. A large open-air media event with a concert was organized by Coca-Cola with participation of UNDP on 5th June 2010, where the project was presented once again in the context of the World Environment Day.
2. To allow local organisations and communities to take part in the project, two grant competitions have been conducted to select pilot community projects in the region, offering grants to initiatives related to awareness raising, education, waste management and ecological tourism.
3. An All-Russian competition for journalists and photographers, entitled “Every Drop Matters!” was announced at the official launch of the project on 28th May 2010 at the environmental film festival in Moscow. The objective of the competition is to increase public awareness on the importance of sustainable management of water resources protection by leveraging local journalists. Journalists from Baikal region, Moscow, St. Petersburg and other Russian regions submitted their press reports, photos and documentaries.
4. After two stages of the grant competition, 9 applicants were selected and awarded with small grants including a project on a public opinion poll.
5. A media-tour was organized by the Coca-Cola Moscow with the attendance of the journalists who have also attended to the first beach clean-up event in Baikal.
6. A special web-page was designed at the website of the Project operator (http://gran.baikal.net).
7. The project itself and certain events of the project were covered in the local mass media: newspapers, television, Internet. Besides, NGO “Baikal Information Centre “GRAN”, the project operator, announced a republican contest for the Best video about the project “Every drop matters – Lake Baikal”. The winners of the contest broadcasted their videos in the local TV channels.
