A Field Visit to Project Sites
During 30 July-3 August 2008, a field trip to the project sites was organized by the UNDP Project Manager in order to secure the local authorities’ participation in the project and ensure their cooperation with the project team for the upcoming mission in the field.
Round Tables
Several round tables were organized with UNDP and The Coca-Cola Company staff in order to discuss problems, give recommendations, as well as strategize and define the next phase of the project.
Characterization Report of Suceava County completed
A technical report on Suceava County was completed by a consultant team. This report contains feasibility studies for the improvement of access to safe drinking water in rural communities, with a particular focus on the three pilot areas: Dorna Candrenilor, Cosna (Tesna and Romanesti villages) and Poiana Negri. It takes into consideration the specificities of the region as well as the potential for countrywide replication. The information and analyses in the report can be used as sources for other development initiatives by local authorities.
Integrated Study
A technical report on the project region was completed by a consultant team. This report contains feasibility studies for the improvement of access to safe drinking water in rural communities, with particular focus on the pilot area. It takes into consideration the specificities of the region as well as the potential for country-wide replication. The information and analyses in the report can be used as sources for other development initiatives by local authorities
Technical Workshop and Validation of the Proposed Strategy
A technical workshop for validation of the proposed strategy was held. At the end of the workshop, a training and awareness campaign for water supply and a wastewater management strategy were developed.
Training of Local Authorities to Mobilize European Union Funds
Intensive coaching sessions for the training for mobilization of EU funds were held in the project site. The audience was made up of representatives of local stakeholders such as local authorities and entrepreneurs.
As a result, representatives of the Coşna commune, Vatra Dornei, and the consultants identified the possibility of obtaining EU funding for a road infrastructure project.
Production of Booklet
A booklet entitled ‘How to Develop a Project to Be Submitted to Rural Development Funds’ was published.
Elaboration of a Wastewater Collection and Treatment Systems Strategy
The strategy ‘Wastewater Collection and Treatment Systems for Small Rural Communities’ presents the current situation in small Romanian rural communities from the water supply/wastewater collection and treatment systems perspective. Also, it lists several solutions that have been identified and put into practice in other EU countries.
Local Awareness-Raising Campaign
A communication campaign was developed and structured in two sub-components: (1) a public information campaign for the adult population involving the delivery of a customized letter and fridge magnet enclosed in a branded envelope (1,500 pieces) to each household and (2) an educational campaign for the children residing in the project area, which consisted of a cartoon-like origami brochure featuring the adventures of a superhero who transmits the core message of the campaign in an attractive manner.
Production of Project Documentary Film
A documentary film called 9’13”’ was produced, which replicates the core message of the communication campaign while emphasizing the risks of consumption of polluted water for the local population and offering simple solutions for health protection.
Production of Two Project Brochures
Two project brochures were produced: a final project brochure presenting the project results, and a guide to project financing from European Rural Development Funds, both in Romanian and English.
Organization of Project Close-Up Event
The final close-up event of the Every Drop Matters project in Romania took place in Bucharest on the 7th of May 2008. After the event, as a result of media monitoring, articles of the project were generated by several media institutions.
