Black Sea Action Day
International Black Sea Action Day is an annual event designed to help all Black Sea communities celebrate their shared Black Sea environment. The region covers Ukraine, Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Bulgaria and Romania.
International Black Sea Action Day has been marked since the Strategic Action Plan for the Protection of the Black Sea was signed on 31 October 1996. But 2006 was the first time that a truly region-wide communications strategy was introduced.
Initiatives celebrating International Black Sea Action Day have established a strong foundation for working closely with government, NGOs and private partners to promote greater awareness and action to protect the Black Sea environment.
What is the objective?
The objective of Black Sea Day is to make people aware of the main environmental problems facing the Black Sea and to address these through individual action and the strengthening of institutions for water governance.
